"In the past, there has been perhaps an overemphasized interest in the textiles with fine motifs, and pieces that were culturally important (such as "bali belumpung", "bali kelikut") were neglected. It is without a doubt that prior to Society Atelier Sarawak's first exhibition in 1986, and the subsequent Pua Kumbu Textile Seminar in 1988, that there was still much guarded secrecy among the women weavers about their traditional textile art. Through a new openness to share their knowledge, much has now been understood about Iban textile weaving."
