Glass, Judith: Precious Gems

San Francisco 2007

102 Color Plates 52 pp. 9 x 12 Paperback in New condition.

Published in conjunction with the Precious Gems exhibition at the Amadi Gallery, San Francisco. An eclectic group of small -- and even miniature -- late 19th to early 20th century rugs and textiles from the Clearlight collection. Collected over 40 years by a Southern Californian, these weaving illustrate the variety and richness of ethnographic rugs and textiles available, and often collected at modest prices. This collection doesn't have a focus other than being open to a potpourri of interesting artifacts. About a third of the collection are Persian tribal bags and a third Central Asian trappings and ornaments. Other pieces are from China and Anatolia and newer textiles including tiny Navajo and Mexican pictorial weavings.
