Jourdan, Uwe: Oriental Rugs Vol. 5 Turkoman

Augsburg 1989 (1996)

299 Color Plates, 99 Drawing 318 pp. 8.5 x 10 Hardback in dustjacket in Very Good condition..

This is the fifth book in the highly acclaimed Oriental Rugs series and it serves as a detailed introduction to the extraordinary range of carpets and rugs made by the nomadic Turkoman tribes who inhabited the former Soviet republics of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, northeast Iran and the northern frontier region of Afghanistan. Attention has been given to cataloguing and describing the least important as well as the most important weavings, thereby enabling the reader to emerge with a useful knowledge of the history and diversity of Turkoman weaving. The lavish use of color illustrations provides the prospective collector, or anyone wishing to learn more about this complex subject, with an opportunity to study a large number of weavings of the types and qualities most likely to be encountered in galleries and auction houses.
